Abdominal Radiology Group of Australia and New Zealand (ARGANZ) – Annual Meeting

The ARGANZ 2023 meeting took place at the Adelaide convention centre over the weekend. It kicked off with the ESGAR liver workshop and the ARGANZ prostate and rectum workshop, followed by 2 days of plenary sessions covering a range of topics in abdomen and pelvis, including liver, gynae, bowel and an abdominal sarcoma MDT. It was a great pleasure to see so many delegates on site, we had more than 400 registered delegates, with approximately 300 attending in person.
Our international faculty, Prof Valerie Vilgrain, Prof Giuseppe Brancatelli and Dr Jonathan Richenberg delivered world-class presentations, and our local faculty again showed the strength of abdominal imaging in Australia and New Zealand. All lectures generated conversation and potential practice changing tips.
Congratulations to Mendelson Research Prize winner, Dr Anuja Liyanage from Auckland, for her presentation on her research on “Accuracy of MRI in predicting depth of myometrial invasion in endometrial cancer and the influence of the presence of leiomyoma, adenomyosis and MELF”. The prize is a trip to attend the ESGAR meeting, with flights, accommodation and registration all paid for.
The runner up prize was awarded to Dr Rishabh Verma from the Gold Coast, on his presentation on “Imaging of immature teratomas – Suggestive features of immaturity”. The runner up prize is free registration to next year’s ARGANZ meeting plus up to $1000 reimbursement for flights and accommodation.
Popular poster vote winner was Dr Lucy Soden from Melbourne, for her poster titled “Computed tomography imaging features of peritoneal nodules – a pictorial review”.
Congratulations to A/Prof Tom Sutherland and Dr James Seow, who became life members of ARGANZ in recognition of their significant contributions. At the ARGANZ AGM, Dr Kirsten Gormly was re-elected as an executive. All other executives are continuing in their term.
We look forward to welcoming you to the ARGANZ 2024 meeting in Melbourne and offering more online workshops during 2023. For regular updates on issues relevant to abdominal radiology, just become an ARGANZ user (free to register through this website) and follow us on social media.
